The intense contrast and diversity of this magical place is hard to describe. I learned the local language, learned to ride a motorbike and got lost on all the dirt roads, ate chicken feet (because there was nothing else at the street food shack), and witnessed the natural (and man-made) beauty of temples, waterfalls, natural springs, volcanoes, and so much more.
I spent seven marvelous months volunteering in Bali Indonesia from December 2014 to June 2015. On an island that is less than 50 miles across, with over 4.2 million people (most living in the bottom quarter of the island), and 5000 years of cultural traditions and ancient history, I still didn’t have enough time to see and do all that I wanted.
